Online dating and marriage statistics

We refer to these individuals throughout this report as “online daters,” and we define them in the following way: Taken together, 11% of all American adults have done one or both of these activities and are classified as “online daters.” In terms of demographics, online dating is most common among Americans in their mid-20’s through mid-40’s.Some 22% of 25-34 year olds and 17% of 35-44 year olds are online daters. These are certainly a lot of numbers to consider and as I mentioned above, each model presents a different proportion.Nonetheless, what these stats tell us is that generally speaking, across all three models (calculated by using the admittedly unscientific method of averaging the proportions across all three models to emphasize the last two models), these are the Asian ethnic groups are most or least likely to have each kind of spouse: Men/Husbands -- Most / The numbers presented above only represent a 'cross sectional' look at racial/ethnic marriage patterns involving Asian Americans. You should understand that each model has its strengths and weaknesses and as you can see, each produces some very different numbers. If you would like to read about the exact procedure J. Huang and I used to calculate these numbers, visit the Statistical Methodology page.Moving beyond dates, one quarter of online daters (23%) say that they themselves have entered into a marriage or long-term relationship with someone they met through a dating site or app. That is statistically similar to the 17% of online daters who said that this had happened to them when we first asked this question in 2005.

And more seriously, 28% of online daters have been contacted by someone through an online dating site or app in a way that made them feel harassed or uncomfortable. In general, online daters themselves give the experience high marks. Some 79% of online daters agree that online dating is a good way to meet people, and 70% of them agree that it helps people find a better romantic match because they have access to a wide range of potential partners. Some 42% of Americans know someone who has used online dating, up from 31% in 2005.And 29% of Americans now know someone who met a spouse or other long-term partner through online dating, up from just 15% in 2005.

  1. Although there’s a development that’s most likely a red herring involving Sylvia Mahoney’s rapist son Charles (Wilson Bethel), the big reveal in the final seconds was the connection between killer Dominick and one of Keating’s favorite students (and Wes’ girlfriend) Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza). We see him taking orders for the arson from none other than Laurel’s villainous dad, played by Esai Morales.
